Jeanie Kay sends...

Hello Snodgrass Families!!

I am SO excited for our upcoming reunion!

This Covid-year reunion will be held on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday July 30th - August 1st. My family and the family of Greg Parkinson will be arriving July 27 (for more days of fun mountain adventures!!) I hope others will consider a few extended days as well!

We have rented The Legion Hall at 338 N Railroad St., Buena Vista, Colorado, 81211 for Friday, Saturday and Sunday. We will have a BROT (Bring Your Own Take-out; see details below) on Friday evening and a catered meal of gourmet pizza (vegan and gluten free available, please email me the number of people needing this option) on Saturday evening at 6:30. There will be a come and go breakfast with light fare on Sunday morning. I will need RSVP's and head count for the Saturday evening meal by Wednesday evening prior.

The Legion hall does not have AC as most establishments do not in Buena Vista (BV). There are ceiling fans, windows and one small portable AC unit and I will arrive early and open the windows. The average temperature in Buena Vista in July is a low of 48 and high of 82 which is dry, breezy and quite pleasant unless you are playing tag football in the sun. Please bring jackets! I have called numerous restaurants and ice cream shops nearby trying to find an air conditioned place to sit and cool off, but most do not have AC as it is rarely needed. The only restaurant I have found so far with AC is "Crave" (it is brand new) on the corner of Railroad and main. Even Louie's ice cream shop a few blocks from the Legion hall, has outdoor seating only. I will have the keys to the hall all weekend for all hours, but will plan on opening up on Friday 6pm to 9pm, on Saturday, 8am and closing up at 9pm (flexible), and 7am to 11am on Sunday. We can play that by ear and other arrangements can be made for extended hours by request.

Friday night BROT (Bring Your Own Take-out). Cafe's, Restaurants, food trucks and coffee shops abound in BV, so there are many places to drive and get take-out. I will list below some of the places within walking distance of our venue. The Legion hall is on the corner of Railroad and E Arkansas Streets in the downtown area, just 3 blocks from main street.

  • Sorelle Delicatessen, 303 US Hwy 24 North, Buena Vista ( 3 min walk down Arkansas st, Deli is on corner of Arkansas and 24, you don't have to cross Hwy 24).
  • All on main street, 3 blocks from hall (they all do take out, listed in order of distance from Legion Hall):
    • The Deerhammer Distillery (Distillery, Whiskey tastings AND Foodtruck)
    • The Buena Viking (stationary food truck with clever burgers, sandwiches and sides)
    • The Olive - Mediterranean Cuisine
    • Simple Eatery and Spoon it up (Restaurant that serves every thing from burgers, rainbow trout with veggies to Bison raviolli and ice cream)
    • House Rock Kitchen (contemporary stop for sandwiches and bowls)
    • Little Engine Eatery (food truck/train engine serving all kinds of brauts and hot dogs, veggie dogs, etc)

Parks nearby: There is a Splash park 3 blocks south of the Legion hall down Railroad St, on main street. (BRING bathing suit and a towel!) On the east end of main street, a half mile from the Legion hall, is a Community center with an adjacent park with a slide and swing for kiddos (not a pretty park, but walkable from hall). Also at that end of main street is the River Walk. The Riverside Trail takes you along the Arkansas River past River Park (which houses a dog park, skate park and a Disc Golf course), a Rocks and Ropes course and the Buena Vista Whitewater park which offers kayaking, rafting, climbing and biking. The prettiest city park is McPhelemy park on Hwy 24. It is home to the Buena Vista Depot which has a caboose, depot and RR museum. There are playgrounds for the children, covered picnic tables for getting out of the weather, a lake stocked with trout, a bridge, a waterfall and restrooms on the north side. There also tend to be ducks for the kids to feed. You can fish, SUP (Stand Up Paddle board) and canoe in the lake/pond. It's only 1/3 mi from Legion hall, but it's on the other side of Hwy 24. Also a block south of that is Columbine park with a kiddo play area and a burger, ice cream and shake place called K's Dairy delights next door. This park has picnic tables, bathrooms and a creek running through it that kids can wade and fish in.

Heredity

I am the family face;
Flesh perishes, I live on,
Projecting trait and trace
Through time to times anon,
And leaping from place to place
Over oblivion.

The years-heired feature that can
In curve and voice and eye
Despise the human span
Of durance--that is I;
The eternal thing in man,
That heeds no call to die.

Our Family Newsletter

In an effort to disseminate information about the 2005 reunion I established the 2005 Snodgrass Family Reunion Newsletter.  It quickly morphed into a newsletter to pass on news about the family in general and so I've renamed it the Snodgrass Family Newsletter.  This newsletter in disseminated via an email mailing list and will be used for passing family news—no jokes, etc.  If you would like to subscribe you may do so by clicking the link below or by sending me an email.  If you are currently subscribed and do not want to be you can send me an email so stating or follow the instructions at the bottom of any newsletter message to unsubscribe yourself.  The newsletter list also has an archive so, if you've lost track of a message and want to refer to it, click the archive link below and you can look at all old messages.

Now, here's the kicker—I need your input!  I can't pass on family news that I don't know about.  Please send me those tidbits about your family so that we can all share them.

Subscribe to the Tribe of Omer and Carletta Snodgrass newsletter.
